HNBR & HEPDM: Tougher Gaskets for Hot, Oily Duties
Standard EPDM and NBR cover most plate heat exchanger duties. Two conditions break them: steady high heat, and oil in the stream. That is where an HNBR gasket plate heat exchanger build earns its price. HNBR and peroxide-cured EPDM (HEPDM) are the upgrade grades for hot, oily work.
Why the Standard Grades Fall Short
EPDM hates oil; NBR hates heat. An NBR heat exchanger gasket runs out near +110°C. An EPDM plate heat exchanger gasket swells once hydrocarbons reach the plate. Put a 130°C oil duty on either and you re-gasket within months.
HNBR Gasket for a Plate Heat Exchanger
HNBR is hydrogenated nitrile. It keeps NBR's oil resistance and lifts the ceiling to about +150°C【按工厂口径复核】, with far better ageing and ozone resistance. On an HNBR gasket plate heat exchanger duty, that covers hot oil, refrigerants and steam-oil service where plain NBR gives out. It costs more, so save it for the hard duties.
HNBR vs NBR Gasket: Which One Holds Up?
An HNBR vs NBR gasket choice turns on two questions. Is the fluid oily, and is the temperature above about 110°C? Yes to both, go HNBR. Oily but cool, NBR still does the job for less.
HEPDM Gasket: EPDM That Takes More Heat
An HEPDM gasket is peroxide-cured EPDM: same water and steam chemistry, tighter cure. It holds hot water, steam and mild chemicals to about +160°C【按工厂口径复核】 and ages more slowly than standard EPDM. It is still not an oil grade, so keep it for hot water and clean steam.
